Salorge: Energy-efficient Office inspired by traditional salt warehouses rises in France

The Salorge wanted the representatives of Pornic County Government building, to carry on the tradition of the architecture in the region of Retz (E.g. gabled, tiled roofs). The building of the District Government is located in an industrial zone and surrounded by hospital, police, and office buildings. With all due respect for the surrounding community, Atelier Arcau with a design that came the both traditional and decidedly modern and forward thinking. Taking cues from common salt warehouses on the Atlantic coast, the project consists of two long gable roofed volumes in wood clad.

The buildings sophisticated wood designs allow light steering, while the shield the Interior from overheating with gaps and solid parts. A thick skin with concrete built and additional insulation protects the Interior and carries the energy loss. The project was completed in the year 2012 and she reached a BBC term than a low energy consumption buildings. In addition, Salorge received first place in 2012 World Architecture Festival in the category of civic and community.
