Herault Arnod‘s rehabilitation and extension of this former workshop?in France has a unique aesthetic that creates contrast between the old and the new. The metallic extension appears to hover over the original small brick building, which is located in a historic area.
The “floating” top volume is surrounded by a perimeter of balconies that enables the building to open up to the outdoors. The building’s glazed facade is slightly tinted to provide daylighting while protecting the interiors from excess solar gain. The floor to ceiling windows frame the original brick building, preserving the project’s connection to the past.
